Sewerby Hall's grounds and gardens are free until 19 March 2027, except over half term, 24 October to 1 November. The house and zoo still charge.

You can walk round the grounds and gardens at Sewerby Hall for nothing this winter. East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which runs the estate near Bridlington, says entry to the grounds and gardens is free until late March. The one exception is October half term.

Sewerby’s own price list gives the exact dates. The gardens are free from Monday 2 November 2026 to Friday 19 March 2027. Over half term, Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November, the full day pass applies, because that is when the Spooky Sewerby events run. The council’s announcement on 19 October says the free entry runs “from now”, so the grounds are also free until Friday 23 October. The house and zoo in winter

The free entry is for the grounds only. The house and the zoo keep their own charges. Sewerby’s price list shows these for 2 November to 19 March:

  • Zoo only: £4.75 adult, £3.75 child, £14.50 family
  • House only: £4.75 adult, £3.75 child, £14.50 family
  • Zoo and house together: £8 adult, £6 child, £25 family

The same page also says winter pricing for the house and zoo is “to be confirmed”, so check on the day.

The council gives these winter hours:

  • The house: weekends only, 11.30am to 3.30pm
  • The zoo: daily, 10am to 3.30pm
  • Last admission to both: 3pm

Bringing the dog

Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds. They are not allowed in the house or the zoo, except assistance dogs. Sewerby’s own rules also keep them out of the children’s adventure playground, the gift shop and the Orangery. The Clock Tower Cafe has a section where dogs are allowed.

Councillor Nick Coultish, the council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said Sewerby “makes for a wonderful day out” and that the council looked forward “to seeing people take advantage of the free entry during this time”.

What it means for you

  • A free coastal walk, most of the winter. The council points to the estate’s “scenic views of the East Yorkshire coast”. For comparison, two adults and two children pay £43.50 for a day pass in half term.
  • Avoid half term if you only want a walk. From 24 October to 1 November the full charge applies to everyone. Our October half term guide has what is on that week.
  • Christmas plans? Our Sewerby Hall at Christmas page has the festive events and dates.
  • Driving over? Check our roadworks and travel page first: Nightingale Road in Bridlington is due to close from 16 to 27 November.
