Sewerby Hall's Fairytales at Christmas runs on 15 days, 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. House entry £4.75 adult, festive market 22 November.

Sewerby Hall’s Christmas event for 2026 is Fairytales at Christmas, a trail of fairytale scenes through the decorated rooms of the house. It runs on 15 days between Saturday 21 November 2026 and Sunday 3 January 2027, and entry is part of the normal winter house ticket, £4.75 for an adult and £3.75 for a child. The gardens are free all winter.

The quick answer

  • Fairytales at Christmas: weekends from 21 November to 3 January, plus Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 December. Not on 26 and 27 December.
  • Times: 11.30am to 3.30pm, last admission 2.30pm, in two arrival sessions. Advance booking recommended.
  • Festive market: Sunday 22 November, 10am to 4pm, free entry. The whole estate is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Fairytales at Christmas: dates

Sewerby Hall describes it on its event page as a brand-new festive experience: favourite fairytales and festive scenes placed through the historic rooms, followed as a trail. These are the 15 dates in Sewerby’s own event listing:

Month Dates
November 2026 Saturday 21, Sunday 22, Saturday 28, Sunday 29
December 2026 Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Saturday 12, Sunday 13, Saturday 19, Sunday 20, Monday 21, Tuesday 22, Wednesday 23
January 2027 Saturday 2, Sunday 3

It does not run from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day. The event page says it is closed on “Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 December” in one place and “Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 December” in another; in 2026 the weekend after Christmas is Saturday 26 and Sunday 27, and neither date appears in the listing.

Times and booking

The house is open 11.30am to 3.30pm on event days, with last admission at 2.30pm. To spread visitors out there are two arrival sessions: 11.30am to 1pm and 1pm to 2.30pm. You can turn up any time within your session.

Sewerby says advance booking is recommended because capacity is limited and it expects popular dates to sell out. Annual Pass holders must pre-book too, and bring proof of membership. Tickets are not refundable; changing a date costs £5 per booking, through the Welcome Centre on (01262) 673769, open 10am to 4pm daily.

Prices

Fairytales at Christmas is included in the normal winter admission. These are Sewerby’s prices for the event:

Ticket House only House and zoo Zoo only
Adult (16+) £4.75 £8.00 £4.75
Child (3 to 15) £3.75 £6.00 £3.75
Family (2 adults, 2 children) £14.50 £25.00 £14.50
Extra child on a family ticket £1.75 £2.00 £1.75

Free: under-3s, Sewerby Annual or Business Pass holders, Historic Houses members, and a carer with the person they care for. Art Fund and Great Houses, Castles and Gardens passes are not accepted for this event, which is an exception to Sewerby’s usual rule. Children under 8 must be supervised by an adult throughout.

The gardens are free from 2 November 2026 to 19 March 2027, according to Sewerby’s prices page, so a walk round the grounds costs nothing.

Sewerby Hall Festive Market

The Sewerby Hall Festive Market is on Sunday 22 November, 10am to 4pm, free, with no need to book. Sewerby lists festive gift stalls, a farmers’ market, seasonal food and live entertainment. The house and zoo open as normal that day, with Fairytales at Christmas in the house at the usual price. Trade enquiries go to Pink Pigeon Events.

Visiting with a pushchair or a dog

Prams, pushchairs and motorised wheelchairs are not allowed inside the house, for conservation reasons. They can be left at the accessible entrance, and Sewerby has a few hand-pushed wheelchairs and two hip-seat carriers on a first come, first served basis. Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds but not in the house, the zoo, the Orangery or most of the cafe.

More Christmas in the East Riding

Still to be confirmed

Sewerby has not published whether Father Christmas visits in 2026. We will check its listings again in late October and update this page.
