Beverley's council car parks charge 8am to 6pm and bank holidays are not exempt. Sundays are free at all but one. Three are gated shut Monday to Friday.

Beverley has 13 council car parks and every one of them charges. There is no free council car park in the town, unlike Cottingham, Hessle, Anlaby and Willerby, where every council car park is free.

What you can do in Beverley is avoid paying by timing it right, and two of the rules are not obvious. Charges run 8am to 6pm and include bank holidays, so the summer bank holiday is a normal paying day. And three of the 13 are locked behind gates from Monday to Friday, so a car park that looks like a free weekday option is not open at all.

Prices below are from MiPermit, the council’s cashless parking operator, and opening hours from the council’s car park finder. Both were checked on 26 August 2026.

Update, 24 September 2026: the council says the £530,000 Saturday Market scheme, completed on 23 September, added two further pay and display spaces and rearranged a group of six blue badge bays. Its own car park finder still records 98 standard spaces and 10 disabled bays, on an entry last modified on 30 July 2025, so the table above follows the council’s published figure until it is updated. We have set out what the scheme changed. | School Lane (coach park) | 7 | Mon to Sat, 8am to 6pm, incl. bank holidays | 5hr £5.50, 24hr £9.00 | | George Street (long stay) | 79 | Mon to Sat, 8am to 6pm, incl. bank holidays | 1hr £2.00, 2hr £4.00, 3hr £6.00, 24hr £8.00 | | Trinity Lane (long stay) | 160 | Mon to Sat, 8am to 6pm, incl. bank holidays | 1hr £1.60, 2hr £3.20, 3hr £4.80, 24hr £6.40 | | Norwood (on-street, long stay) | 70 | Mon to Sat, 8am to 6pm, incl. bank holidays | 1hr £1.40, 2hr £2.80, 3hr £4.20, 24hr £5.60 | | Lord Roberts Road (medium) | 116 | Saturday only, 8am to 6pm | 1hr £1.40, 2hr £2.80, 3hr £4.20, 4hr £5.60 | | Princes Gardens (medium) | 69 | Saturday only, 8am to 6pm | 1hr £1.40, 2hr £2.80, 3hr £4.20, 4hr £5.60 | | Grovehill Road (long stay) | 125 | Saturday only, 8am to 6pm | 1hr £1.20, 2hr £2.40, 3hr £3.60, 24hr £4.80 | | East Riding Leisure Beverley, Flemingate (medium) | 268 | Every day, 8am to 6pm, incl. bank holidays | Pay at the machine on site |

Space counts are the council’s own figures. They exclude marked disabled bays, which add another 64 across the town. The 1,620 standard spaces above are the whole council supply in Beverley.

The East Riding Leisure car park on Flemingate is the odd one out twice over. It is the only one that charges seven days a week. It is also the only one the council does not price online, so you will not know the tariff until you reach the machine. Leisure centre members with an East Riding Leisure virtual parking permit get up to four hours there.

When it is actually free

  • Every Sunday. The 12 car parks that charge Monday to Saturday are free all day on a Sunday, and so are the three Saturday-only ones. Only East Riding Leisure Beverley charges on a Sunday.
  • Before 8am and after 6pm, on any day, at every car park in the table.
  • Saturday Market on a Saturday. Not because it is free, but because the car park closes for the market. It takes no parking between 6am and 6pm on a Saturday, and charges Monday to Friday only.
  • The mistake to avoid is assuming Saturday is free. Twelve of the 13 charge on a Saturday. Beverley is a Monday-to-Saturday town, not a Monday-to-Friday one.
  • Motorcycles park free with no time limit in a marked motorcycle bay. Park a motorcycle in a normal bay and the usual charges and time limits apply.

The one thing that catches people out on a bank holiday: charges still apply. The council states it explicitly on every car park page. Beverley is unusual in saying so plainly, and it means Monday 31 August 2026 is a full-price day in every Beverley council car park except the three Saturday-only ones.

The three that are shut Monday to Friday

Lord Roberts Road, Princes Gardens and Grovehill Road are listed by the council as open Saturdays and Sundays only, with charges on the Saturday alone. Princes Gardens and Grovehill Road are described as gated Monday to Friday, and Lord Roberts Road has a 7ft 6in (2.3m) height barrier at the entrance.

That is 310 spaces, about one in five of the town’s council parking, that simply do not exist as an option on a weekday. All three are free on a Sunday, which makes them the best value in town for a Sunday visit. Grovehill Road is also the cheapest all-day parking in Beverley at £4.80 for 24 hours, on the one day it charges.

Cheapest for a long stay

Cost of all-day parking in Beverley council car parks, 2026 Six Beverley car parks sell an all-day or 24-hour ticket. Grovehill Road is £4.80 but charges only on a Saturday. Norwood is £5.60. Trinity Lane is £6.40. Grayburn Lane long stay, School Lane long stay and George Street are all £8.00. School Lane coach park is £9.00 for a coach. If you commute or park all day every working day, a Long Stay Car Park Permit is cheaper than paying daily. The Beverley permit costs £50.75 a month, £304.50 for six months or £577.50 a year. At £8 a day, the annual permit pays for itself in about 72 paying days. It covers five places:

  • Grayburn Lane long stay
  • George Street
  • School Lane long stay
  • Trinity Lane
  • the Norwood on-street pay and display area

Permits are not transferable between towns. For comparison, Hornsea’s is £315 a year, Driffield’s £472.50 and Howden’s £157.50.

Beverley’s machines also sell an East Riding Wide Daily ticket. It covers any long stay council pay and display car park anywhere in the East Riding, on the day it was issued.

Resident and visitor permits

Beverley’s residents’ parking is the most expensive in the district, and the gap is entirely in the second permit.

Location First permit Second permit
Beverley £35.00 £110.00
Bridlington £35.00 £40.00
Howden £35.00 £40.00
Brough £15.00 Not available
Anlaby £15.00 Not available
Hessle £15.00 Not available
Willerby £15.00 Not available

A second permit in Beverley costs £110 a year against £40 in Bridlington and Howden, for the same thing. Anlaby, Hessle and Willerby all rose from £10 to £15 on 1 April 2026, which the council says was to standardise costs across the authority. Permits last one year and must be renewed.

Visitor permits come in bundles of 35 for £5.00, so about 14p each. Each one covers one day, from when you start it until 10am the next morning. You can buy up to 10 bundles a year, and only a resident with a valid resident permit or registration card can buy them.

Everything runs through MiPermit, whose help line is 0345 520 7007.

Blue badge holders: the rule is the opposite of what you expect

This is the detail most likely to cost a badge holder money in Beverley, and the council states it outright.

“Blue badge holders may park in on-street car parks without paying and displaying. We charge for off street parking because we consider that disability is not necessarily related to the ability to pay.”

So a blue badge does not get you free parking in a Beverley council car park. It does exempt you from paying on-street, and it removes the need for a resident permit or a visitor permit anywhere in the East Riding, which is worth £35 a year on its own.

The council maintains almost 500 marked accessible bays across the district, including 17 at East Riding Leisure Beverley, 10 on Saturday Market and 8 at Grayburn Lane. A marked disabled bay outside your home is not reserved for you: any valid badge holder may use it.

Paying, and what it costs to pay

Machines take cash and card. Paying by phone, app or text through MiPermit adds costs the council does list:

  • a 10p processing fee on every cashless pay and display transaction
  • an optional reminder text 20 minutes before your parking expires, at 20p
  • to pay by phone call, ring 0345 505 1155 from a mobile at your normal call rate

Buying through the app or website lets you extend without going back to the car, but the council warns that paying in advance does not reserve you a space.

If you get a ticket

East Riding penalty charge notices are £70 for a higher-band contravention and £50 for a lower band, halved to £35 and £25 if you pay within 14 days. The council goes out of its way to correct a common misconception: the charge is not doubled if you are late, it is discounted if you are early.

After that it escalates on a fixed timetable:

Stage Day Lower / higher
PCN issued 1 £25 / £35
Discount period ends 14 £50 / £70
Notice to Owner issued 28 £50 / £70
Appeals deadline 56 £50 / £70
Charge Certificate 57 £75 / £105
Debt registered 71 £75 / £105
Warrant applied for 106 £82 / £112

Once a warrant is issued you can no longer pay the council. All payments go through the enforcement agents. Appeals must be in writing, online at eastriding-parkingenforcement.co.uk or by post using the form in the Notice to Owner. The council does not take appeals by telephone at all.
